Supporters of KICC are holding an event in Crystal Palace Park this Saturday (21 May). The event, called ‘A New Beginning’, will be on the top site close to the bus station on Crystal Palace Parade.
The event, which starts at 1pm, includes a gospel choir and is expected to attract between 500 and 1000 people from outside the area. The gathering marks KICC’s first event in Crystal Palace since it bought the former cinema at nearby 25 Church Road in a secret deal in July 2009.
Despite Bromley council refusing planning permission for change of use to a church for 25 Church Road – a decision KICC has since said it would not be appealing – a massive amount of work has been going on in the building.
The Picture Palace Campaign will not be organising any form of protest at Saturday’s event. We urge anyone who is planning to go along to ‘Keep calm and carry on’ supporting a proper cinema for Crystal Palace.
We recognise that people may want to go along and make their views known. There is a passionate local concern following KICC’s failure to talk to the community and its elected representatives and many now see the church as having ignored the views of Crystal Palace residents – over 3,500 of whom objected directly to Bromley council, with 7,000 signing a petition against KICC’s plans and in support of a cinema.
With KICC having consistently ignored Bromley council and local MPs requests for them to engage with Crystal Palace locals, this Saturday will finally give you the community the chance to talk with KICC.
