A Worrying Tale

Little White Lies reports on a remarkably similar campaign in Walthamstow where local campaigners are fighting to save the EMD Cinema.

Sadly it appears that the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God have allowed the cinema to fall into serious disrepair since their planning application was rejected.  We can only hope that Kingsway International Christian Centre will be more community minded if their application is declined by Bromley.

Why don’t the Council serve a Notice of Disrepair on KICC, that should negate their blackmail threat of letting the building go to rack and ruin (very charitable by the way!). It is in a Conservation Area after all.

So… let me get this straight. The KICC are using BLACKMAIL now to get their way?! How very un-Christian…

No-one should have the right to knowingly allow a building to fall into disrepair. The threat by this organisation clearly highlights their blatant disregard for the feelings of crystal palace residents and their intentions should be made as widely known as possible to hold up a mirror to the true character of the leaders of this organisation. If the council are aware of the KICC’s intentions to go ahead and create a rotting eyesore in the middle of a vibrant community they should take the necessary action against them and force them to keep the building a good state of repair, the cost of doing this would in turn force them to abandon their plans to create a church on this site.

One only has to look at the huge problems hospitals face with parking when they are located in urban areas to know that opening a church in the middle of a town with no parking facilities will lead to congestion and tensions.
The best alternative for this organisation would be to find a more suitable site and recognise that their plans are not relevant to the needs of the “local” community and therefore should be abandoned and the building sold on to be used for the purpose it was orginally built – a cinema.
